Does all your irrigation system knowledge live in one person’s head?

Does all your irrigation system knowledge live in one person's head?

Does all your irrigation system knowledge live in one person’s head?

    If so, you’re not alone.

It’s a situation we come across all the time.

An irrigator has worked at a particular ranch or with a certain management company for decades.

    They know:

    • Where all the valves are
    • Which blocks to run together
    • How fast the pump needs to be running
    • The best way to go about opening and closing the system

Irrigators have so much knowledge. It’s incredible.

But often they’re the only person with that knowledge.

And typically, almost none of it is written down.

Or if it is, it’s buried in notebooks, scribbled on scraps of paper, unorganized and inaccessible.

It’s an understandable state of affairs.

    It’s also risky.

Risky because all that institutional knowledge, all that irrigation know-how, is incredibly valuable to the business. It’s critical to day-to-day operations.

And yet, life is unpredictable. It could so quickly and easily be lost.

That’s part of why farm managers and leadership teams are so excited about getting up and running with Lumo.

Lumo codifies all that irrigation knowledge.

We move it into a system where it’s more organized, more visible, and more accessible to the rest of the organization.

Doing so helps everyone better understand how their system works, how it’s performing on a day-to-day basis, and what improvements and adjustments need to be made to maintain precision. It adds leverage, allowing the entire field team to benefit from the irrigator’s knowledge.

And, perhaps most importantly, it removes the single point of failure, ensuring that all your irrigator’s hard-earned wisdom doesn’t get lost when they eventually retire or are no longer with the business for whatever reason. It removes the risk.

That way you don’t have to start back at zero, learn the whole system from the ground up, and make all the same mistakes over again.
